MEDITATIONS FROM THE PSALMS

Reading: Psalm 19:1-6

“The firmament shows His handiwork” Psalm 19:1

How much you were blessed recently, my soul, as you sat and viewed the sight before you in Glacier National Park. All you could think about was “My God, how great Thou art.” How anyone can look at God’s creation and still contend that there is no Creator is beyond your contemplation. Few scenes have affected your heart as deeply as this.

Jim Reeves used to sing a song that puts this sentiment into words:

Each time I touch a rose petal,

And breathe the fresh fragrance it brings;

I know there’s a God up in heaven,

No human could create these things.

The Dogwood, the Oak, and the Willow,

So gracefully wave in the wind;

The Dogwood I’ll always remember,

My Lord died upon one of these.

The sunset in its golden splendor,

Such color no artist can do;

I know when I look on its beauty,

Each page in the Bible is true.

No picture, no painting can capture

The beauty of any of these;

The handwork of God is revealed in

The flowers, the sunset, the Trees.

This same creator created you. You are the best of His handiwork because He made you in His image. This can be said of nothing else; no animal, no landscape, no flower or tree. As beautiful and wonderful as these are, they are not eternal and do not posses the Spirit of God. That life He breathed into man makes you unique in all of God’s handiwork. Therefore, my soul, love Him, worship Him, obey Him, for, if you do, you will spend eternity with Him. You will be with Him where He forever will be your Light—brighter than the sun, your Temple, your River of Life, your Tree of Life.

As breath taking as His creation is now, so much greater will it be when you enter that place reserved for you, the place where He now dwells, His final creation—the new heaven and new earth.

Worship Him, soul of mine, for He has made you to enter into His courts with praise. He created you to dwell in His presence and to enjoy Him for ever.

"What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing"
