MEDITATIONS FROM THE MINOR PROPHETS

Reading: Obadiah 15-16

“As you have done, it shall be done to you” Obadiah 15

My soul, do not be angry when you see the world belittling your Savior. They have the freedom now to make fun of Him and try to remove His name from public display. Our children cannot be taught about Him in public school and the ten commandments are removed from the courthouses. It cuts at your heart to hear His name taken in vain.

Centuries ago the people of Edom did the same thing—they ridiculed and fought against the people of God. But God was not ignorant of their behavior:

“But you should not have gazed on the day of your brother in the day of his captivity; nor should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction” Obadiah 12.

God will be the final Victor. The day is approaching when those who scorn and oppose His Son will find themselves bowing before Him. Those who curse Him now will soon confess Him Lord.

“But on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; The house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. …

But the house of Esau shall be stubble” Obadiah 17-18.

When God removes Himself all control is lost. When human nature is allowed to go unhindered you will witness Satan at his worst. Sin is the root of all disobedience and rebellion against God and His people. But, my soul, rejoice that you are in Christ and He in you. The Holy Spirit dwells in you and every born again believer to guard you, guide you, and teach you the way of your Lord. He is there to convict you and lead you into holiness.

As the world around you appears to behave unchecked by anything or anyone always remember that your God is in control. He governs the activity of the devil—he is like a lion chained. You have not seen the worst of Satan’s acts—imagine, if you can, Satan loosed. But you, dear soul, have been saved by the grace of your Heavenly Father and the shed blood of your Savior. You are in Their hands. Shut out the noise of the world and hear Jesus say:

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand. I and My Father are one" John 10:27-30.

Yes, there is deliverance on Mount Zion!

"What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing"
