MEDITATIONS FROM ISAIAH

November 2, 2005

Reading: Isaiah 59:1-21

Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save” Isa 59:1

How wonderful, my soul, that these words are as real today as they were when they were written. Isaiah reminds the Israelites of the many times when Jehovah delivered them by the power of His outstretched arm. The hand of Jehovah delivered them from their enemies and gave them the bountiful land of Canaan in which to dwell. God had not changed since those days—it was the people who had changed.

Today, the message remains true—the Lord’s arm is not shortened, has not changed, that it cannot save. This is true to both the unbeliever and believer. The Almighty God who saved you so miraculously from the guilt and punishment of your sins is able today to deliver you from the sins that still pervade your life. Those pesky sins that keep you from the intimate walk with Christ you so desire.

Think back to those wonderful occasions when God strengthened you, provided for you, and seemed so close. Remember the vows and promises you made to Him but have not lived up to. How guilty you feel, how you feel you have disappointed Him. Do you wonder if He will still forgive you? Oh, yes! He has not changed. His love is the same and so is His promise to forgive. My soul, you have done nothing so bad that He will not forgive and deliver you from the power that seems to hold you in its grasp.

The Lord has not changed. Believe it! Count on it! Rejoice in it!

“But the LORD your God you shall fear; and He will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies” 2 Kings 17:39.

“For I am the LORD, I do not change” Mal 3:6.

“Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, and I shall be innocent of great transgression” Ps 19:13.

“For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace” Rom 6:14.

"What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing"
