MEDITATIONS FROM THE MINOR PROPHETS

Reading: Micah 5:7-9

“Then the remnant of Jacob shall be … like a dew from the Lord” Micah 5:7

Take note, my soul, of the character applied to the seed of Jacob, and praise the Lord that you are included in that number of saints. Whenever you meditate on the promises of God to His people in the Old Testament, remember Paul’s enlightening statement,

“If you are Christ’s, then are you Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” Galatians 3:29.

As a member then of God’s family, you are a part of a remnant. You are however, God’s remnant. God has always had a remnant, from a faithful few who never bowed their knee to the heathen idol Baa,l to the myriads of thousands who worship Him around the throne of glory. No matter how small or large (only God knows the number), rejoice in the fact that you are numbered among them. As such, you are in covenant with God and are distinguished and separated from the rest of the world—“They are a people dwelling alone, not reckoning itself among the nations” Numbers 23:9. They live among many people but do not belong to any of them—they are not of the world but are chosen out of the world.

Another character of God’s people is that they are like a dew from the Lord, their very presence in the world is like the dew in the morning—refreshing in a sin parched world. As the dew is from the heavens, so believers are born from above: not of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of men, but of God.

How then, my soul, are you perceived in this world? Has God changed you so that others are refreshed when they are in your presence? If you are truly born again by God’s Spirit then the world will be influenced by you.

"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

"You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” Matthew 5:13-16.

“Therefore by their fruits you will know them” Matthew 7:20.

"What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing"
