Reading: Job 38:1-7

“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?” (4)

O Christ, Creator of all things,

Every day I see the work of Your hand;

From the blue ceiling in the sky,

To the green carpet on which I walk,

Your majesty is revealed.

Lord, I watch the soaring birds

As they ride invisible waves;

Their wings are as wide as man is tall,

From their loft they see the mouse in the field;

Your greatness is revealed.

I sit and watch in amazement

At the tiny birds in the trees;

Painted by the Master Artist,

Swift, alert, yet delicate;

Your perfection is revealed.

At my feet I see the busy ant

Scurrying with a purpose in mind;

Bees buzzing from blossom to blossom

Carrying their generating gift;

Your wisdom is revealed.

The rolling hills on the landscape

Melt into snowcapped mountains;

The lake, alive with tinsel from the sun,

Waves respond to the push of the wind;

Your knowledge is revealed.

Where were you, I hear You say,

When I created all these things?

Stars in orbit around the earth,

Universal vastness undetected;

Your Omnipotence is revealed.

And here am I, one dot on the earth,

Insignificant in the realm of things;

But important to You, Sovereign Lord,

To bleed and die for my salvation;

Your love and grace is revealed.
