MEDITATIONS FROM THE PSALMS

Reading: Psalm 87:1-7

“All my springs are in you” Psalm 87:7

Some of the greatest truths are declared in a few words. My soul, learn this lesson well, for these words performed by singers and musicians together proclaim the heavenly medicine that will renew and sustain your struggling heart. Jesus is the Source, the Fountain, the Author and the Finisher of all our blessings; for everything of life and salvation, of grace and glory, flow from Him, are centered in Him; and therefore in Him and from Him all our springs must flow.

“For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.” All glories are in Him: the glory of the church above; the glory of the church below; the glory of angels and of God Himself; for the Father has given all His glory to Him.

Ask yourself, my soul, from whom should your springs flow, but from Jesus? Is there another person or fountain upon whom you can rely for your eternal welfare both here on earth and then in heaven? Every divine attribute and all divine perfections are in Him; there is no mercy or grace other than in Jesus; no blessing, no redemption but in his blood. The bottom line is that there is no person, no system or organization to whom you can turn or even want to turn that can fill your heart with the fullness of God.

What a refreshing contemplation this is to always experience your Redeemer as the Spring that brings life to your thirsty heart. Make sure, my soul, that you are coming to Jesus, every day for all that you need, and do not let your barrenness and emptiness discourage you, or keep you away, for He is ever ready to pour the water of life into your parched soul.

Precious Jesus, Water of Life, let me always seek refreshment and sustenance from You. Thank You that, whenever I am thirsty, You are ready to revive my soul with Your life giving water. Oh, what a glorious thought! “All my springs are in You.”

“For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross” Col 1:19-20.

"What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing"
