Reading: Psalm 104
“Thou sendest forth
thy spirit, they are created” (30)
The Trinity, the Three Equal Person
Godhead is impossible to comprehend with our finite minds, “For there are three
that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these
three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and
the water, and the blood,” 1 John 5:7,8.
The Holy Spirit has always been
referred to as the “Third Person of the Trinity,” and that is primarily because
of this scripture in 1 John. One is not more important or powerful that the
other for they are each one equal with the other. The Holy Spirit actually is
the Person of the Trinity who has more personal involvement with creation than
the Father or the Son. How can that be? Let’s look at a few scriptures.
The first Person of the Trinity to be specifically
mentioned in the scriptures is the Holy Spirit, “And the Spirit of God moved
upon the face of the waters,” Genesis 1:2. The word “God” in verse one is the
Hebrew word ‘Elohim’ which is plural and speaks of the Triune Godhead.
Creation happened when God (elohim)
spoke but it was the Holy Spirit who actually performed the action. It is the
Holy Spirit who applies the words of God.
When it was time for God to send
Jesus into the world to become our Redeemer, it was an act of the Holy Spirit
that caused it to happen, “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When
as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was
found with child of the Holy Ghost,” Matthew 1:18. The Holy Spirit is the Arm
of God that extends to the earth to perform His plan.
When Jesus was preparing His
disciples for His death He told them, “It is expedient for you that I go away:
for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I
will send him unto you,” John 16:7.
It is the Holy Spirit who “reproves
the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment,” vs 8. It is the Holy
Spirit who “will guide you into all truth”, vs 13 and who will reveal to us the
things of Jesus Christ, vs 14.
It is the Holy Spirit who empowers
believers to walk in God’s ways, “But ye shall receive power, after that the
Holy Ghost is come upon you:” Acts 1:8. “And there appeared unto them cloven
tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost,” Acts 2:3,4.
The application of the attributes
of God is made by the Holy Spirit, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,
peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance,”
Galations 5:22,23. You never hear of “the fruit of Jesus Christ” or “the fruit
of the Father”! While it is true that the fruit of the Spirit is the fruit of
the Godhead, the Trinity, it is spoken of as the fruit of the Spirit because it
is He who applies it to our hearts and lives.
When Jesus wished His message to
the churches to be declared through John, we read, “He that hath an ear, let
him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches,” Revelation 2:7. The Holy
Spirit is the great Communicator, He is the Applicator
of God’s will. He dwells in every believer, “Except a man be born of water and
of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom
of God,” John 3:5.
It was covered in darkness, this old earth of ours,
Without form and void, so the Word of God says.
The Spirit of God moved and things began to change.
And God said, Let us make something out of this chaos,
Let us make light to separate the darkness.
Let’s make some land with trees and herbs and grasses;
The Spirit of God moved and things began to change.
The sun and the moon, some planets and stars,
Some animals too, some small and some large,
Fish to swim in the sea, and in the air flying birds;
The Spirit of God moved and things began to change.
Let us make man in our image, after our likeness,
Let him have dominion over all we have made,
So from dust He formed man and blew in his nostrils;
The Spirit of God moved and things began to change.
Adam and Eve, they were the first of their kind,
But they sinned against God, and hid from their Maker.
Then the Lord said, a solution we will find;
The Spirit of God moved and things began to change.
So God chose a young virgin, Mary by name,
And He breathed on her womb and new life was conceived,
This life was Jesus, for our salvation He came;
The Spirit of God moved and things began to change.
Now Jesus taught that we must be born again,
Not in the womb or by any act of man,
But by God’s Spirit, an act of His divine hand;
The Spirit of God moved and things began to change.
It was not without cost, this gift of salvation,
For Jesus must die to pay for redemption,
The solution to sin was brought to completion;
The Spirit of God moved and things began to change.
Now the solution to sin has been completed,
Jesus breathes on His people to keep them from sin.
And now the Spirit of God within us is seated
;
The Spirit of God moved and things have changed.
