Reading: Isaiah 6:1-4

“In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord” (1)

Just to stand and gaze on Thee,

Such a privilege is mine;

Incomprehensible majesty,

Thy glory so sublime.

I bow my head, Sovereign Lord,

My heart stands still in awe;

By angels and men Thou art adored,

Thy holiness without flaw.

I kneel before Thy radiant throne,

Thy brightness I cannot bear;

Such perfection Thou dost rightly own,

I can but kneel and stare.

The day that King Uzziah died,

Isaiah saw the Lord;

Seated on His throne on high,

By Seraphim adored.

Ezekiel too, so God’s Word tells,

Saw God enthroned on high;

Prostrate upon his face he fell,

Not a whisper, not a sigh.

In exile, Jesus’ beloved friend,

In vision his God did see;

In fear and awe his knees did bend,

As he glimpsed eternity.

I raise my eyes at Thy behest,

Thy radiant reflection see;

Dimly, as through a mirror, I rest

My eyes on Thy purity.

God of gods, there’s none like Thee,

Almighty, Ancient of Days;

Triumphant, resplendent in glory,

Unsearchable are Thy ways.

Never let me tire, O God,

As I gaze upon Thy face;

Revive my sight, while on this sod

I run the blessed race.
