MEDITATIONS FROM KINGS

Reading: 2 Kings 3:1-19

“And this is a simple matter in the sight of the LORD” 2 Kings 3:18.

What a phenomenal statement this is by the prophet Elisha. The kings of Israel, Judah and Edom combined their resources to oppose the Moabites. They marched for seven days and could not find water, endangering the lives of their armies and livestock. Rightfully so, they determined that without water they would be defeated by the Moabites. They sought the help of Elisha who told them that, not only would God provide them with water, which would be a simple matter for the Lord, He would also give them the victory over their enemy.

My soul, you and many Christians face circumstances which, humanly speaking, seem impossible to overcome. It may be the salvation of a loved one, a major problem with the I.R.S., or a business transaction that, while you are in the right, is turning sour. No matter what it is that seems impossible, it “is a simple matter in the sight of the LORD.” God is the God of the impossible. With God all things are possible.

“But Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible’" Mark 10:27.

“Jesus said to him, "If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes" Mark 9:23.

Not only did God meet their immediate need, that of water, He also gave them victory over their enemy. How often has God so blessed you. You have prayed believing He can and will meet your need and, when He does, it is often far more than that for which you prayed. God is a God of abundant blessing. No matter how bleak the path before you appears, to God it is a simple matter.

If God can deliver you from death unto life, provide water and nourishment in the desert, exchange your putrid garments for His robe of righteousness, and prepare you for life eternal with His Son Jesus Christ, then surely, my soul, He can change your negatives into positives, your failures into successes, your anxieties into faith, and your tears into joy. There is nothing He cannot do.

“To whom then will you liken Me, or to whom shall I be equal?" says the Holy one. Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these things, who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, by the greatness of His might and the strength of His power; not one is missing” Isaiah 40:25-26.

There is no burden so heavy that you cannot place it into His arms. That which seems unbearable to you does not cause Him to stagger under its weight. It is a simple matter in the sight of the Lord.

"What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing"
