MEDITATIONS FROM THE PSALMS

Reading: Psalm 5:1-8

“My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD; In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up” Ps 5:3

What a wonderful thought, my soul, to encourage you this morning, that your Savior, Jesus Christ is a prayer hearing, and a prayer answering God. How do you feel this morning? Unwell, still tired, lifeless? No matter, the reality remains the same—your God will hear you as you turn to Him. Make this your daily intent, to speak to Him. Discount your feelings, and, in your waking moment, speak to Him. He promises to her you and the result is that He will lift your spirit and give you His strength for the day. Jesus will do more in one moment, to influence your thoughts, to show you His glory, and to lift up your spirit, than all your self-empowered futile attempts can ever do.

Does His Spirit not remind you that His compassions never fail, that they are new every morning? Do you not need this precious communion with Jesus the moment you wake? What a grand way to begin the day. You do not know what the day will bring, what trials you may face, and decisions you will be asked to make so why not begin with communion with Him who has promised to be your Guide and Strength?

Can you think of a better way to start your day than at the Mercy Seat of your God? Lift your voice and heart to Him before the issues of the day require your attention. Communion with Jesus is like taking a tonic in preparation for the unknown happenings of the next twenty-four hours. You may need to return to His Mercy Seat often this day, so why not begin it there?

I know, Lord, I shall spend time this morning at the Mercy Seat, before I speak to any other. Yes, dear Jesus, You will hear my voice in the morning, as the day dawns I will direct my prayers to You. I will send them up to heaven, and, by Your grace, I will do so throughout the day, and every day. Make my soul a frequent visitor to Your Mercy Seat, O God of my salvation.

“Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, for in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to You” Ps 143:8.

"What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing"
